In this paper we summarize all the verified records to the end of 1989, and present some notes on the separation ofthe species from . P. pipistrellus, based on measurements of the British specimens. There are now 21 confirmed British records of P. nathusii (Table I). These records span the Pipistrellus nathusii with the common name Nathusius' pipistrelle, belongs to the Mammals group Nathusius' pipistrelle - Pipistrellus nathusii - (Keyserling & Blasius, 1839) Nathusius' pipistrelle bat (Pipistrellus nathusii) is found from Western Europe to the Urals, Caucasus, Western Asia Minor and South Asia. The Nathusius’ pipistrelle is migratory in Europe, migrations of more than 1,600km have been recorded between summer and hibernation sites.

Although slower than P. pipistrellus, P. nathusius still enjoys a rapid flight, which is Nathusius' pipistrelle is a small bat in the genus Pipistrellus. It is very similar to the common pipistrelle and has been overlooked in many areas until recently but it is widely distributed across Europe. It was described by two German naturalists, Alexander Keyserling and Johann Heinrich Blasius, and named by them after Hermann von Nathusius, in gratitude for his support of their research. This specie is 44 to 54 mm long (body and head measurements) and the tail is 30 to 40 mm. The colour of the pelage is different depending on the season, in the winter time the fur is dark or greyish brown and in the summer time the colour is reddish. Usually lighter ventral part and dorsal part more yellowish. Pipistrellus nathusii. ialtóg Nathusius. The first confirmed Irish breeding colony of this bat was discovered in May 1997 near Lough Neagh.
